Iasos

Wandering through the ancient city of Iasos at Kiyikislacik. Situated in Güllük Bay, these outstanding remains sit comfortably amongst the olive groves, and were once a flourishing Greek town. Although it was not large, Iasos acquired great wealth trading in fish. Originally built on an island, it is now connected to the mainland by a small isthmus.

We anchored in the ancient harbour next to the old city walls, under craggy slopes that hold up an old fort atop the hill. The inlet here is almost landlocked thanks to a sunken breakwater that sits just below the water level. With our new guest, Auntie Rosie, on board, it was a rather pleasant place to spend a couple of days!
