Ermioni
Our next stop heading west through Greece was Ermioni. And it was our first stop back on mainland Greece since we jumped off from the Peloponnese back in May 2022, over one year ago.
We weren’t certain about coming here after such an idyllic stay in Dokos, but we needed a few supplies and it was the next best anchorage nearby. In fact, Ermioni took us by surprise. It is off the tourist trail but attracts Athenian families looking for a peaceful summer vacation. We anchored in the big bay near the port and away from the town quay that is popular with charter boats. Upon arrival, the crew took it upon themselves to swim to the shore and back, with both Sullivan (7) and Frankie (5) making the 300m return journey unassisted!
That evening we dined in town at the historic Ganossis Restaurant, a family-run business that has been serving traditional Greek food here for over 100 years. The dress code was blue, as designated by the children! By day we enjoyed exploring this relaxing seaside village. We stocked up on fresh fruit and bread. We wandered through the Bisti, a pine forest that covers the headland of the peninsula that the town sits on. And we cooled off from the heat with regular swims off the coastal rocks around the bay.
Ermioni proved itself to be a very pleasant stop, so much so that we stayed longer than intended. And although we’re not done with the Greek islands just yet, it was nice to touch the mainland once again.
