Poros Island
From Ermioni we made our way out into Hydra Bay and took advantage of the light winds to get up our gennaker sail, AKA The Big Balloon! We stopped in for the night at Cape Skyli, tied to the rocks above an octopus’ garden, before heading around to Poros Island in the Saronic Gulf. We timed our weekend arrival so as to avoid the inevitable chaos of the charter trail, when hundreds of boats make their way here from Athens every week. Though we did still manage to get front row seats to the quayside drama that makes popular summer cruising destinations entertaining to say the least!
Aside from its proximity to Athens, it’s obvious to see why this is such a favoured destination for sailors & mega yachts. The charming and large port is full of tavernas, boutique shops and fun vibes. We took pleasure in wandering the picturesque winding alleyways, dining out three times a day, and soaking up the atmosphere! Of course, no trip to Poros would be complete without a walk up to the town’s famous landmark, a 100 year old clock tower, that sits atop the hill overlooking the quayside below.
And we really made the most of our stop in town, churning through 9 loads of washing in three days, scrubbing the boat and restocking the larder. And as an extra bonus we also managed to squeeze in not one but TWO date nights, thanks to our wonderful friends and current crew, Aaron & Kat!
