Singapore Yacht Show 2018

Living in South East Asia and planning an adventure across the world has its pluses and minuses... One of the downsides of buying a boat remotely is that there just isn’t the local scene to get us the info we crave - chandleries, boat yards and yacht shows. And when there is one it’s not quite big enough to have the variety we’d like! We end up spending a lot of time on the Internet and less time talking to people who are experts in their field. So whenever a boat show pops up, we are sure to snap up tickets and make the very most of it!

I went down to the Multihull Solutions party on the Friday night to catch up with the team. I also met a couple of folks from the Fountaine Pajot factory too, which gave us a different perspective on the company’s philosophy. And it was also good timing with our upcoming trip to France. The growing FP family and its dealers have a unified vibe which we really love. An enjoyable evening with a few drinks shared and a few tales told about buying a virtual boat!

That weekend (with my sister and her kids in Asia for another fabulous visit), we took everyone down to experience the Lucia 40 - a similar yacht to the one we will soon be living on. It was quite a scramble with 4 babies and 3 adults on board, but so much fun for the big kids to explore the trampoline and clamber all over the boat. Although I think everyone was quite relieved to see us leave the stand so they could get on with selling the boats!

Singapore has a knack for putting on events like this and the scene created is much more geared towards luxury yachts rather than long term family cruising. It is quite educational however and always gives us the opportunity to see all the peripheral electronics, other boats out there, and a ton of experts to talk to!

Just one more Singapore Yacht Show left before we leave next year!
