Road Trip!
Since we’re spending a few months here in Morocco we thought we ought to get out and explore a little more of this amazing country. Time to swap our floating home with some wheels for the week...
Heading east out of Tangier along the coast road takes you out of the city, past the big hotels perched on the cliffs, and right along the northern coastline of the African continent. Across the straits, Spain and Gibraltar lie just 15kms away. And winding through the hills of this northern corner of Morocco takes you past that other small disputed territory, Ceuta.
Today we followed the long stretch of coast between Fnideq and M’diq, brimming with empty resorts awaiting the summer crowds to return, and then headed inland to our first stop of the journey, Tétouan.
We are privileged to be staying in the heart of the ancient Médina here, which dates back hundreds of years and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our riad is unchanged since it was built 200 years ago - a former family home with 9 ensuite rooms, a central vaulted courtyard and a 3-tier roof terrace!
