Marmagkas Beach

Another beautiful sail, this time from Lefkas to the iconic island of Ithaca. And we had the whole emerald bay and lush surroundings at Marmagkas Beach all to ourselves! After dropping anchor we set out in the dinghy to explore some of the little coves in this deserted paradise. On the beach we selected shiny white pebbles to skim across the water, with the best few stones coming home in pockets.

When we landed upon the rocky islet that sits in the bay - home to a simple chapel - tens of seagulls circled the little island. Exploring the scrubland we found a small fledgling hiding amongst the grass, and realised that we were the intruders of a nesting site for the gulls. Although, the kids were more concerned about the flora than the fauna, and renamed the isle, Thistle Island.
