Gaios to Preveza

The last sail of the season!

But before mooring up for the winter, we spent a couple of nights in the town of Gaios, the main port on the island of Paxos. This panoramic port is flanked by an islet and the long, narrow inlet it creates resembles a fjord. Spending a couple of nights here gave us the chance to attempt one last new skill before the season was out!

Now that we are in Greece, we need to master the art of anchoring stern-to on a town quay. This means laying our anchor out in-front of us at the same time as reversing back into a berth between two yachts, and tying two stern lines to the harbour wall. A daunting process with plenty that can go wrong, but the conditions were favourable for our first attempt, and our friends from s/v Paxi were on hand with plenty of help and encouragement!

After enjoying this charming little town, we set off in the early morning for our final sail of the season. The city of Preveza, just half a day away in northwestern Greece, would be our last stop in what has been a very full summer. Now it’s time to get Long Summer ready for her big winter slumber!
