Casablanca

48 hours in… Casablanca!

From street art to cafe culture and shopping districts, this is not the atmospheric Morocco of your dreams. But as always, the people were generous and the food was amazing. A weekend of family adventure to Morocco’s largest city, just 2 hours away.

We wandered the wide boulevards that lead to the Atlantic coast, soaking up the modern energy of this big, dirty city. On the ocean shore we marvelled at the imposing Hassan II Mosque. One of the largest mosques in the Muslim world, it stands proud on its coastal outcrop. A wonder of pattern and symmetry.

But the biggest highlight by far was riding first class on the bullet train, Al-Boraq. The high-speed rail service between Tangier and Casablanca was opened just over a year ago and is the first of its kind in Africa. With a top speed of 320km/hr this journey has been high on the kids’ priority list - and it did not disappoint!
