Singapore Yacht Club

We have had the opportunity on a few occasions to see yachts at boat shows, and these are obviously occasions when you see boats at their very best! What we were keen to see, however, is how people live and use boats in real life.

At this point we are still evaluating the size of Fountaine Pajot's Lucia 40 versus their Helia 44. With only one of us having seen the Helia in person, it was important for us to fully establish the reality of the 40ft option.

Our broker was coming to Singapore and this allowed us an opportunity not only to visit a Lucia 40, but the Singapore Yacht Club as well.

It was a very hot day and not having really been aboard a boat on the equator in a marina, it was good to see how hot these things can get when left closed up!

We had a great tour of the boat under no pressure at all, allowing us to really move around and see how practical it would be not only our family now (with one small child), but realistically when we would be two adults and two larger kids under 10 at some point. We also envisage accommodating visitors or crew helping us on long passages at times as well. So very quickly we felt (and we rarely think differently on these sorts of things) that in our gut this would be too small and potentially something we would outgrow too quickly.

Our thought has always been to make this adventure comfortable enough so that the lack of comfort would not be a factor in cutting our trip short!

Along with this great opportunity to further scope out or options, we were able to utilise the yacht club and learn about its fascinating history. Whilst the outlook of the club, with marine industry encroaching was a bit off-putting, it did give us a good insight into what it might be like staying in a marina in the future.

A great visit and another step closer to the big adventure. :)
